Vitra Ceramic Containers

Description

Introducing the Vitra Ceramic Containers No.1, No. 2, No. 3, a seamless blend of historical charm and modern craftsmanship. Originally designed in 1952 by the iconic designer Alexander Girard, these containers were first crafted as wooden models, hand-turned on a lathe to achieve their distinctive silhouettes. These shapes, evocative of apothecary vessels, board game tokens, and millinery blocks, now reside in the prestigious Girard Archive at the Vitra Design Museum.

In collaboration with the Girard family, Vitra has reimagined these classic designs in cast ceramic, maintaining the integrity and spirit of Girard’s original creations. The transition from wood to ceramic allows these pieces to retain the handcrafted feel and artisanal flair that Girard infused into his original works. Each container echoes a piece of history while offering a robust and tactile presence in any modern setting.

The Ceramic Containers are more than mere decorative items; they are functional artworks that embody a rich design heritage. They serve as versatile pieces for the home or office, perfect for storing small items or simply enhancing a space with their sculptural beauty. With their timeless design and durable material, these containers are poised to become a cherished part of any collection, bringing a touch of history and elegance to everyday life.
